Diversity Experiences
Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of America
I mentored a young boy in 5th grade once a week. We enjoyed playing games, making crafts, and visiting about life. This experience was valuable, but saddening to me because I gained a first-hand experience with a student who came from a challenging home life. I learned how important school is to some students, the power of connection to brighten someone's day, and how gifts of time can make a difference.
Shepherd Elementary School, Montana
In my Junior ELA class, we had the opportunity to be pen pals with third grade students from Shepherd, Montana. This project was through No Excuses University, an organization that promotes higher education among elementary students, often from a diverse background.
Diversity Practicum
For my diversity practicum requirements, I created a resource file of advocacy websites for all the different cultures found America. Through this project, I learned that the resources available dealing with cultural diversity and bridging those gaps in the classroom are unending. There is always a way to help a student succeed in school, despite abilities or cultural differences.

ELA Senior Trip to Peru- Pending
My senior ELA class and myself will be traveling to Peru this Spring. We hope to visit various schools, tour ancient the ruins of Machu Picchu, and learn about a very different culture than our own. I am beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity to travel, for the first time, to somewhere outside of the United States and embrace a completely different way of living.
